Here are some updates on Hunter Pets from Beta:

If you haven’t seen these by now, each pet will have a special talent that only they can train. It’s similar to Cat’s Prowl or Gorillia’s Thunderstomp now, we just have more special talents for each type of pet. It’s about time! You can check them out here.

It seems we have a better look and understanding how the pet talent trees will work thanks to Beta-tester, Axolia. We were told that pets would have a DPS, Tanking or Well-Rounded role and now those roles have names: Cunning, Ferocity and Tenacity.

Certain pets still have certain roles, which means that we can’t have a bear pet throwing out tons of DPS (though that would be cool) and thanks to Axolia here is the list of which pets falls into each category:

  • Cunning: Bat, Dragonhawk, Nether Ray, Owl, Ravager, Serpent, Spider, Spore Bat, Wind Serpent
  • Ferocity: Carrion Bird, Cat, Hyena, Raptor, Tallstrider, Wolf
  • Tenacity: Bear, Boar, Crab, Crocolisk, Gorilla, Scorpid, Turtle, Warp Stalker

MMO-Champion posted Axolia’s work in great breakdown of each pet tree which include screenshots and the description of new pet talents.

For those of you interested in the “Exotic Pet” 51 point talent of the Beast Master Tree here is a little, not much, information for you:

The developers are currently working on the exotic pet talent. Exotic pets are exactly that, exotic and not the average run of the mill pet. But whether this name will stick or not, is uncertain at this point. But these will be a range of new pets with unique abilities, that only those with the talent will be able to tame and train. Where do you get them, well, we’ve not got news on that right now — perhaps somewhere, exotic! 😉

These pets are different from normal pets, but they’re not necessarily more “uber” than others. However they will have access to unique abilities not available to the normal pets that every Hunter can train. A Hunter with this talent will get extra power, but from the talent’s associated additional pet talent points and not necessarily from the exotic pet.

There you have it. All you out there hoping your Devilsaur pet would hit like a Devilsaur, sorry. 😦  Though it seems Blizzard is handing this talent with some care. It will be interesting to see how this talent fully plays out.
